Sorry I havent update in a long time but life in general and life at Great Birchwood got the better of me. I am sure most of you are aware by now that the Great Tony Hadlow owner and founder of Fort Sat Antone Great Birchwood sadly passed away at the beginning of December. For those of you that didn't know he had been battling cancer for about 2 years and what a long brave fight it was!!
The Passing of Tony has not meant that Fort San Antone or Great Birchwood has closed its doors far from it in fact. Since the new year a few changes have started to be made. This started with a new website. This now has a fully up to date what's on guide taking you right up to the end of October. Video links to bands and a film that was shot on location at Great Birchwood. And for the first time ever the site includes pictures from inside the club and our full and extensive menu. Please check it out at www.fort-san-antone.com
Great Birchwood is now welcoming all Motor holmes caravan's tent tepees ect back on site. With there location being a short 10min drive from the Motorway they are in an excellent position for day trips to Lytham St Annes, Blackpool, Preston, Liverpool Manchester and the beautiful Lake District. They are within walking distance to a railway station and there is a bus stop right outside. You really couldn't ask for anything more from a caravan park.

Fort San Antone Music Festival and other events
Sorry its been such a long time since I last blogged but pressures of really work got in the way. There have been alot of great events on at Great Birchwood Fort San Antone your favorite live music venue.
We have to start with Souled Out. What a fantastic live band they turned out to be. They consisted of 8 fantastic musicians. Which included a 3 peace brass section a drummer a Bass player a keyboard player a lead singer and lead guitar player. They had all the dancers up dancing all night to Rock n Roll Blues brothers sole and many more. They even got us listeners bopping in our seats. They were probably one of the most entertaing bands I have seen in a longtime. Looking forward to when there next on which I think is 18th December.
The other big event to hit Fort San Antone was The Fort San Antone Music Festival. Unfortunately it would appear that the price of the tickets for this event put some people off. Well those people missed out on what was one of the best organized Festivals I have seen. Not only did Bigbeatuk manage to get the best British country act all under one roof but also in the same weekend. You could tell that they were quality from the sound. It was the best I have ever know it. Hopefully if the word on the street is correct and bigbeatuk do do another festival next year more of you will be able to make it. This event is worth supporting.

Something a little bit differnt
Last Friday and this Friday coming Wayne has booked something a little bit differnt. First we had a 60's 70's tribute band. They were very good doing a range of music from The rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Beatles and even The Who. It was the first time they had been to Fort San Antone and they told us afterward that they loved the place.
Next up on Friday 16th October is Sould Out an 8 piece Sole R n B Rock and Roll band. Now I havent seen them before but I have been told by others that they are very good. one of the band members the trumpet player I think use to be a regular himself during The Cheap Seats days.

The Fabulous Picasso Brothers
Tonight brings us The Fabulous Picasso Brothers. They are probably one of the most enduring and popular bands on the circuit today. They are also one of the most entertaining. There style is a divers selecting of Country, Rock, Rock n Roll Elvis and even the odd bit of pop. Oh and if you like Status Que you will love the end of there second set.
Jonty the lead singer is Also the owner of his own Bar in Kendal. I havent been but I have been told its a fantastic night out. Jonty is also one of the Brains behind The Fort San Antone Music Festival which is on 23rd to 25th October. The Fabulous Picasso Brothers are also one of the headline acts.

Ethan
Last night we were treated to Ethan pretty much at his. He is now gigging regular so his vocals are now as good if not better than when he was lead singing with his former band The Cheap Seats.
For those of you who don't know The Cheap Seats were probably the biggest thing to ever happen to British country music. They very nearly took country music mainstream in the UK. So where did it all go wrong. Well know one really knows. But it was probably due to the fact that TV decided in there wisdom to take CMT ( Country Music Television ) off air in the UK and play the same pop drivel that you get of the other 10 MTV channels. Makes sense. NOT.
The reality is that The Cheap Seats were probably at the end of the road but that was no reason for the end of the road for Country Music in the UK. I think Ethan as a Solo artist is now starting to prove that point. He is also in a new acoustic duo call the Mearcats. I have been lucky enough to see them and they are very good. I think they may be on at Birchwood in December.

Ethan Allen
Well I suppose I have to credit Ethan with getting me into Country music and loving Fort San Antone Great Birchwood. I first started going to Birchwood regular to see The Cheap Seats which for those of you that don't know Ethan was the lead singer of and boy were they popular. Back in them days they could charge people £10 on the door and still fill the place and be wanting them back in 2 weeks time and everyone would turn up again. Great times.
Well Ethan is on on Friday night and a shout out I suppose you could call it has been put of on facebook to have a Cheap Seats fans reunion night. Lets hope in brings you all back. The last one certainly proved very popular. Maybe in the future we will see a Cheap Seats reunion. I think its unlikely but we can hope.Mind you just like them god us fans have aged. I have to say I look good far my age. Yea right.

Festivals and Boxing
Fort San Antone Great Birchwood once again played host to white collar boxing. This is about the sixth time now. It has proved a very popular venue with the Boxing fans. All the staff at Great Birchwood didn't stop from 7:00 till nearly 1:00. If only the other events were this well patronized we the fans of Fort San Antone wouldnt have anything to worry about re the venue being change or closed in future. So I urge everyone to get behind the Hadlow family and turn up in your hundreds to any future events. In the word of Deila smith come on lets be having you.
